Abstract

Key Words: Writing Skill, Narrative Text, Whatsapp Group Writing skill as an important skill in language learning. It is viewed as a basic communication skill and a unique asset in the process of learning a second language. The problem in this study that many students still have difficulties in writing because of the lack of vocabulary, language functions, grammar, especially for making sentences in a good arrangement. The objectives of this study were to describe what kind of Whatsapp Group that could improve students’ writing skill in narrative text, and find out the influence of the application of Whatsapp Group media in improving teaching writing for eighth grade students. This study was focused on students’ improvement in writing narrative text by using Whatsapp Group media. The researcher used quantitative research design in which the researcher to find out the influence of Whatsapp group in students’ writing skill of eight grade in SMPN 2 Kamal. The population was the eight grade students, and the sample was class VIII-A as experimental class and VIII-C as control class. To analyze the data, the researcher used SPSS23 Based on the data, it presented that mean of posttest of each group experimental and control is different, the experimental group is higher (77,46) score than control group (71,23). From the finding above It can be concluded that the students taught using Whatsapp Group media in writing skill effectively than those taught using conventional media such as whiteboard. The teacher can use Whatsapp Group as a media to teach students in writing there are five aspect like format 5%, mechanics 5%, content 20%, organization 35% and grammar 35% in writingnarrative text. It hopefully would motivate the English teachers to use new media to teach writing narrative text in their classroom.
