Abstract

Keywords:Narrattive text, Think Aloud Protocols Strategy, Writingability. This research aims to know whether the Think aloud protocols strategy is more effective than the conventional method in teaching writing narrative text in eighth-grade students of SMPN 3 Kamal. In this study, the researcher used quantitative research. The design of the research was Quasi-experimental design. The total number of population was 150 students. The researcher took the sample by non-random sampling technique. The sample in this study were VIII-A class and VIII-D class. VII-IA class consisting of 23 students as the experimental group and VII-H class consisting of 22 students as the control group.Writing test was used as the instrumentforcollecting the data. The result of the hypothesis has null hypothesis is rejected and alternative hypothesis is accepted (H0is rejected and Ha is accepted). It could be an answer fromthe research question that the students taught by using Think aloud protocols strategy have betterwriting ability than those taught bythe conventional method. To analyze the data, the researcher uses ANCOVA formula by helping SPSS 23 Program, from the result showed that p-value (0.000) and α (0.05). Therefore, it could be concludedthat p-value ≤ α. Thus, it showed that there was an effect of think aloud protocols strategy on students writing ability narrative text at the seventh grade of SMPN 3 Kamal.
