Abstract

Key Words: Writing skill, Fishbone method, Brainstorming Writing is ability or skill of English about interpreting ideas, interest, of feeling in written codes to converse with the readers without compression and to discover experience. It can be communicated in form of essay a paragraph. Based on the researcher’s preliminary observation in SMAN 4 Bangkalan, the students to have low writing skills because they cannot know about how to writing text. In this case, the researchers try to applying fishbone method as a method in teaching writing. This research is experimental research. In this study, researchers use a quasi-experimental research type. The instrument in this research was an essay test. The data showed there was significant difference on the students’ writing skill taught by fishbone method. The students’ mean of posttest of the experimental group was 63.68 while the mean of score posttest of the control group was 57.64. The result of this research shows that there is a significant influence on students’ writing skill by using fishbone method on descriptive text. It can be seen through the score of Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA) test from SPSS 23, the result of ANCOVA test from p-value was 0.003. It is lower than alpha (0,05). If p-value < from alpha (0.05), It means that Ha was accepted and H0 was rejected. Moreover, the students gave a positive feedback. The students were excited and enjoy in learning writing by using fishbone method. Finally, the researcher concluded that teaching writing by using fishbone method was quite successful, it was good effect for students’ score in three aspects are content, organization and vocabulary. The researcher expects that this method was effective to be applied in writing learning process.
