Abstract

The cruise ship industry has strict requirements for its crew members' proficiency in spoken English. The performance of a cruise ship firm is significantly impacted by members' poor speaking abilities. The major goal of this study is to identify the underlying causes of the participants' lack of motivation to learn English since the start of their academic careers. Interviews were employed as a technique of data collection and an interview guide served as the instrument in this study, which involved the selection of 10 young people as participants. The data was qualitatively examined, and the conclusions were described. The general factors that influence young people's or students' lack of motivation to learn English sooner will be covered in greater detail in this study. They ought to have begun their improvement of their professional adventure as cruise ship personnel from within by developing the ability to talk English plainly and eloquently. The study's findings reveal that the general traits that inhibit young people from being motivated to learn English are low public speaking confidence, anxiety, laziness, shyness, and fear of making mistakes.
