Abstract

Keywords: Narrative text, Problem Based Learning (PBL) model, writing ability. The aim of this research is that the researcher wants to know whether the students taught through Problem Based Learning (PBL) model gain better in writing narrative text than using Direct Learning (DL) model in teaching writing narrative text at the tenth year of SMAN 02 Bangkalan. In this study the researcher used quantitative research. The design of the research was using quasi experimental design. The total number of population was 424 students. The researcher takes the sample by non-random sampling technique. The samples in this study were X-MIPA.3 class and X-IPS.1 class. X-MIPA.3 class consisting of 31 students as the experimental group and X-IPS.1 class consisting of 31 students as the control group. Writing test was used as the instrument to collecting the data. The result of hypothesis has null hypothesis is rejected and alternative hypothesis is accepted (H0 is rejected and H1 is accepted). Based the result to analyze the data using ANCOVA formula by helping SPSS 23 Program that it has answered from research question so the students taught by problem based learning (PBL) gain better in the students’ writing ability than those not taught using problem based learning (PBL). Because from the result showed that p-value (0.006) and α (0.05). Therefore, it could be conclude that p-value is small than < α (0.05). Thus, it showed that there was an effect of Problem Based Learning (PBL) on students writing ability in narrative text at the tenth year of SMAN 02 Bangkalan.
