Abstract

Key words : Build-A-Sentence Cubes, Simple Past Tense, Grammar. Grammar is one of the most important aspect in learning English. Students of the eighth grade of SMP AD-Damanhuri feel confuse when the teacher teaching them using English. They do not understand what the teacher writing and the meaning of the text. They need enjoyed in learning english especially grammar. In addition, they feel bored with the media that teacher usually give for them. They need new media to make them interest in learning English. Therefore, the researcher wants to teach them use a new media through game which is fun, interactive and easy to understand the lesson of English. This research is quantitative of quasi expremental research with two groups pretest postest design. There are two variables in this research, there are independent and dependent variables. The independent variable is “Build-A-Sentence Cubes game’’ while the dependent variable is students’ grammar mastery. The objective of this research is to know the effectiveness build a sentence cubes game of simple past tense to improve student’s grammar mastery at the Eight grade students of smp ad-damanhuri. The number of population is 81 students which divided into nine classes. The researcher uses test as an instrument in getting the data. To analyze the data, the researcher uses SPSS 23 IBM version. The result shows that p- value is 0.000 < 0.05 (α), if P-value < a. It means that alternative hypothesis (Hα) is accepted and null hypothesis (H0) is rejected. It can be an answer from research question that Students taught by “build a sentence cubes game” get achievement than the students do not teach by “build a sentence cubes game” in enchancing students’ grammar. In conclusion, It could be an answer from research question that the students taught by using build a sentence cubes game.can be effective as media teaching to grammar at the eighth grade students of SMP AD-Damanhuri in academic year 2018-2019.
